Whom Do You Seek this Christmas Week?

There are just four more days until we celebrate Christmas and the birth of Jesus Christ. As I was reading in the psalms this morning, Psalm 119:10 spoke to me about my attitude toward my Lord.
Psalm 119:10
With my whole heart I seek you;
let me not wander from your commandments!
"With my whole heart I seek you."

We remember that the shepherds left their flocks at night and sought out Jesus Christ. They put themselves as close to the newly born King of Kings as they could. In understanding who He was, they sought Him out. We are not told how many stables and mangers in Bethlehem they visited before they found the babe wrapped in swaddling cloths. Fact is they were diligent about seeking Him and they found Him because they sought Him with their whole heart. When they finally left His presence they were transformed -- Joy filled their lives and they could not help but tell everyone they met about Jesus.

As I reflected on this scripture, I was forced to ask myself, "Do I really seek the Lord with my whole heart or am I satisfied with simple knowledge about my Lord?" It is so easy to focus on trivial matters within the Bible. God's Word is there to call us into a life-changing encounter with the Spirit of God. In this encounter the Holy Spirit of God can utilize the scripture to bring complete transformation. Such genuine encounters have the power to transform who I am on the inside as well as to transform my habits of speech, actions and all of life.

Do I really seek Him with my whole heart? Right now I do and I commit myself to this approach of continually seeking my Lord and Savior each and every day. How about you?
O Holy Spirit may my heart be truly open to your guidance this very day! May I keep my feet upon the path of the great commandments of my God. May my life today glorify and honor you through my words and deeds. Amen
